The attorney

You work directly with the lawyer — not a case number passed down a hallway.

Ettrick Campbell has practiced law in New York for over twenty years. Admitted to the New York State Bar in 2001 after earning his law degree at American University's Washington College of Law, he has spent his career helping people through the moments that matter most — the end of a marriage, a family in transition, a future in a new country.

He believes most people facing these matters don't need to be sold fear; they need a clear plan, an honest fee, and a lawyer who picks up the phone. Whether you need full representation or just help getting the paperwork right, you work directly with him.

Two ways to work with us

Hire a lawyer, or do it yourself with our help.

Not every matter needs the same level of help. Choose the path that fits — and if you're not sure, call or text and we'll tell you honestly which one you need.

★ Attorney Representation

Hire the firm

We represent you start to finish — reviewing your documents, advising on strategy, dealing with the other side, and standing in for you with the court or agency.

  • Best for complex or high-stakes matters
  • A true attorney-client relationship, with full legal advice
  • We handle the filing, service, and process for you
  • Fees quoted up front after a consultation

Limited-Scope / DIY Options

Do it yourself, for less

For straightforward, cooperative matters, we also offer separate flat-fee document-preparation services. We prepare your court-ready forms; you file them yourself.

These are document-preparation services, not legal representation. Using them does not create an attorney-client relationship and is not a substitute for legal advice. If you want a lawyer representing you, choose the representation option.

Know someone who needs a lawyer?

Refer a friend, family member, or client.

Most of our work comes from people who've been through it and pass our name along. If someone you know is facing a divorce or an immigration matter, send them our way — we'll take good care of them.

Leave your details if you'd like (so we can thank you and keep you posted), then tell us who to reach out to. We'll do the rest.

  • We reach out to your referral directly — no awkward intro needed
  • Same honest, no-pressure consultation we give everyone
  • Optional: leave your name so we know who to thank

Common questions

Answered plainly, before you call.

Should I hire the firm for full representation, or use the flat-fee DIY document service?

It depends on the matter. Straightforward, cooperative, or procedural matters — an uncontested divorce both spouses agree to, a simple continuance motion — are often well-served by a flat-fee document-preparation service. Complex, contested, or high-stakes matters — deportation defense, a contested divorce, an asylum claim — need full attorney representation. Call or text and Ettrick Campbell will tell you honestly which path fits.

Do I need a lawyer for my first immigration court hearing?

Not always, for a first Master Calendar Hearing with no relief application pending. If you're seeking asylum, a green card, cancellation of removal, or facing detention, you should have representation. A short intake helps identify which category your case falls into.

What happens if I miss my immigration court date?

Missing a scheduled hearing without the court's permission can result in an in-absentia removal order — a significant share of recent removal orders have stemmed from missed hearings. A motion to continue or change venue must be filed and granted before the original date; filing it alone does not cancel the hearing.

Do I have to go to court for an uncontested divorce in New York?

No. New York uncontested divorces are decided entirely on paperwork. Once the completed packet is filed with the County Clerk, a judge reviews and signs the Judgment of Divorce without either spouse appearing in court.

What if my spouse won't sign the divorce papers?

New York law provides a default path for a spouse who refuses to sign, disappears, or won't participate. After proper service and a waiting period, the case proceeds by default and the divorce is finalized without their cooperation.

How much does an uncontested divorce cost in New York?

Total cost has two parts: the document-preparation or attorney fee, and mandatory New York court fees (an index number filing fee and a note-of-issue fee collected by the County Clerk, plus a small charge for certified copies). Ask for a flat, all-in estimate before you start — there should be no surprise charges.
